This remarkable gem has travelled vast distances, traversing the depths of space to grace our planet, and now, it adorns the hands and hearts of those who cherish its ethereal beauty. However, Peridot can also be found as well-formed crystals, for example in Pakistan and China or as fragments or rolled pebbles. It can also be found in the USA, Brazil, and Burma and on some islands. It grows in the Orthorhombic crystal system and is made up of Magnesium Iron Silicate. Peridot is the transparent variant of the mineral olivine. Peridot is prized for its absolutely stunning unique colour which is yellowish green to bluish green and is rare in large sizes. The lustre is dull vitreous and can even look almost oily sometimes. It is the birthstone for August, possessing magical powers and lots of healing properties. It is not a very hard stone, only a 6.5 on the Mots scale with a fair toughness. Hence this stone is suitable for necklaces, earrings, and cocktail rings, but any knocks to the stone should be avoided as should contact with perfumes, make up and other substances.

Peridot, derived from the Greek word "peridona," meaning "to give richness," is a gemstone of remarkable origin. Born in the heart of volcanic eruptions, it emerges from the depths of the Earth, a testament to the intense forces that shape our world. Its formation occurs deep within the mantle, where molten rock and mineral-rich fluids coalesce to create a gem of rare brilliance. As a magnesium-rich variety of the mineral olivine, peridot is formed deep within the Earth's mantle, a tumultuous realm where intense heat and pressure forge these mesmerizing treasures.
